Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Police then found multiple other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests indicate the substance was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; investigators are not yet informed of any injuries in relation with the incident," they added.
Local authorities said they were trying "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A high-ranking official commented the attack made him speechless and had to be resolved quickly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he stated on a platform, recalling the murder of nine people by a assailant targeting people of migrant background in five years prior.
